Description
High-difficulty trekking excursion in El Chalten in which you will visit the famous Laguna de los Tres, located at the base of Mount Fitz Roy, departing from and returning to El Calafate on the same day and always accompanied by a mountain guide. This tour is designed for people who are in good physical condition and want to discover a mountain landscape that very few tourists visiting El Chalten are able to reach, while hiking along the area’s main trekking trails, which offer spectacular views of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.
The excursion begins with a transfer from your hotel in El Calafate, where we will pick you up and head towards the legendary Route 40 in the direction of El Chalten. From there, you will travel along Lake Viedma, with the Andes Mountains in the background, until reaching the town of El Chalten after a 3-hour, 220 km journey.
Once in Argentina’s National Trekking Capital, you will continue by vehicle for another 26 km until reaching Estancia El Pilar, next to the Rio Blanco. From this point, the 20 km, 9-hour round-trip trek to Laguna de los Tres begins, always accompanied by a mountain guide who knows the area. The first part of the trek is relatively easy until reaching Poincenot Camp (6.3 km), where you will cross the Rio Blanco before beginning a more challenging and steeper section towards Laguna de los Tres (2.5 km).
After several hours of demanding trekking through the forest, where you will be able to see hanging glaciers and spectacular landscapes, you will reach the highlight of the activity: Laguna de los Tres. There, you can enjoy the lunch box that can be optionally added to your reservation while taking in the view of the base of Mount Fitz Roy.
After visiting Laguna de los Tres, you will return to El Chalten, this time descending via Laguna Capri towards the town (11.2 km). Upon arrival, the vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in El Calafate.
