Description
This guided tour is ideal for visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier balconies from El Calafate. It includes plenty of time to walk around the walkways at your own pace and at your leisure. The tour is not physically demanding and is an ideal activity for seniors or groups with children.
The Perito Moreno: Balconies tour begins when we pick you up by bus from your hotel in El Calafate to travel 78km to the glacier. During the tour, you will learn about the geology and ecology of the region while enjoying landscapes with lakes, streams, forests and snow-capped mountains.
Once inside the Los Glaciares National Park, stops will be made at panoramic points until you reach the western end of the Magallanes Peninsula, from where you will begin the walk along the balconies. These have a total length of 5.5 km and are at different levels, so you will see the Perito Moreno from different perspectives and balconies. From there, you can marvel at the front of the Perito Moreno Glacier, appreciate its vibrant blue tones, observe the imposing ice walls and listen to the thunderous sounds of the ice breaking and falling into the water, creating a unique sensory experience.
Additionally, you can include an optional one-hour boat tour or the Touch the Glacier with Navigation excursion to walk through the forest next to the Perito Moreno Glacier and touch its walls. You can also add a lunch box or have lunch at the restaurant located at the beginning of the balconies.
If someone in the group is taking the Minitrekking Perito Moreno tour, the transfer from El Calafate to the glacier can be combined in the same vehicle and once you reach the glacier, the group can split up. You will all share one hour visiting the balconies together.
Once the tour is over, you will return to El Calafate after having experienced a truly unforgettable encounter with nature and the wonderful Perito Moreno Glacier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Discover the questions other travelers also had before booking. If one person in the group does not book this excursion, can he/she still travel to the glacier with the rest of the group but take a different excursion?
Yes. Even if group members have booked different excursions to visit Perito Moreno on the same day, he/she can share the same transfer to the glacier as long as you inform us in advance that you are traveling together. Once in the National Park, each person will do their chosen activity, and then you will meet to walk the Perito Moreno Glacier balconies together for about 1 hour before returning to El Calafate. You must check the possibility of combining excursions before booking.
How much free time is available to explore the balconies of the Perito Moreno Glacier?
The tour typically allows approximately 5 hours for self-guided exploration of the various circuits. This time is ideal for discovering the balconies at a leisurely pace, stopping to take photos and enjoying the panoramic views from the different balconies and viewpoints.
If a navigation option is added to the booking, how does the available time at the walkways vary depending on the chosen activity?
If you choose to add the Short Boat tour option, please note that this activity lasts approximately 1 hour, plus the time needed to travel to and from the port. Therefore, the time available to explore the balconies is reduced by more than 1 hour compared to the standard tour. The Touch the Glacier with Navigation option, on the other hand, requires approximately 3 hours, in addition to the time needed for travel to and from the port. Consequently, the time available to explore the balconies is usually between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the day's schedule and operational times.
Is it possible to do the excursion with a baby stroller?
Yes, it is possible to take the tour with a stroller. If you need to bring one, please let us know in advance so we can prepare the vehicle accordingly. The stroller must be foldable for easy transport and storage during the outbound and return journeys. However, please note that the balconies have stairs and uneven terrain in some sections, so stroller access may be limited in certain areas.
Are the balconies accessible for people with reduced mobility?
The Perito Moreno Glacier balconies have an accessible section for people with reduced mobility, allowing them to reach the first panoramic viewpoint. From that point onward, the various routes include stairs and uneven terrain, so they are not fully accessible for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility.
Can you buy food and drinks inside the National Park, or is it recommended to bring a packed lunch?
While it is possible to add food to your reservation, considering the time available on the balconies, we recommend purchasing food at the restaurant inside the National Park so that you can relax comfortably.
What level of difficulty do the balconies of the Perito Moreno Glacier have?
The Perito Moreno Glacier balconies feature color-coded circuits marked according to their level of physical difficulty. The accessible circuit (purple) and the central circuit (yellow) are easy; the forest circuit (green) and the coastal circuit (blue) are moderate; while the lower circuit (red) is the most challenging due to the number of stairs and inclines. All routes are well-marked and offer different perspectives of the glacier.
Can the excursion have schedule changes?
Yes, excursion schedules may change due to operational reasons. In case of changes, you will be informed between 24 and 48 hours before the date of the activity. For this reason, it is recommended not to schedule fixed commitments for the same day of the excursion, such as flights, bus trips or other activities that could overlap with possible tour schedule changes.
Is the experience cancelled due to bad weather?
The excursion is not cancelled due to weather conditions, as it takes place in Patagonia, where changing weather is common. For this reason, it is recommended to follow the clothing guidelines to be prepared for any eventuality during the experience.
