Description

Description
El Calafate Balcony Offroad is an excellent half-day tour ideal to take advantage of a free morning or afternoon in El Calafate. You will travel in 4x4 vehicles to Cerro Williche which is located behind the city while you enjoy beautiful views of Calafate, Lake Argentino and the Andes Mountains from the viewpoint at the top of the hill. The tour starts from your hotel in El Calafate when we pick you up to complete a 35 kilometers journey above the line of hills located behind the city. The trail immerses us into steppe landscapes where we reach heights of up to 1050 meters above sea level and where you can marvel at the variety of vegetation at this height. The first stop will be at a natural viewpoint where you can enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate and the main body of Lake Argentino. The tour offers views of The Andes and the accumulation zone of glaciers, the Boca del Diablo (narrowest part of the lake, towards the Upsala arm) and, if the sky is clear, you will see the Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre in Chalten. In some occasions you can see the flight of the condors that inhabit the area. Later, you will take a short walk to the edge of the balconies, to then descend and visit Estancia Huyliche located at the base of the hill. The estancia is a historic cattle ranching establishment that dates back to the 1920s, the time of the historical events known as Rebel Patagonia. In the oldest house of the estancia lunch or a snack is served, which is included. After the visit to Cerro Williche, its viewpoint and the estancia, you will return to your hotel in El Calafate.
