The Minitrekking Perito Moreno 2.0 excursion is an ideal experience if you want to explore Perito Moreno Glacier with greater physical demands and get closer to its center than on the traditional version. On this adventure departing from El Calafate, you’ll walk on the ice and explore the forest and lakeshore until you reach a point closer to the heart of the glacier, as well as sail in front of its imposing southern face and visit the walkways of Los Glaciares National Park. During the ice trek, you’ll discover crevasses, sinkholes, lagoons, and blue ice formations, ending with a whisky toast with ancient glacier ice on board the boat.

The Minitrekking Perito Moreno in its 2.0 version is one of the most complete excursions offered to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier from El Calafate as it includes ice trekking, a boat tour in front of the southern wall of the glacier and the visit to the balconies, always accompanied by a guide. It is an intermediate excursion in terms of difficulty between the classic Minitrekking and the Big Ice since you will get closer to the center of the glacier but without taking so many hours ice trekking.
If you book the tour with transfer from El Calafate, we will pick you up at your hotel to undertake the 78 km journey until reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier within Los Glaciares National Park. If you do not include the transfer, you must get to Port Bajo de las Sombras, located 7 km before arriving at the glacier, where you will embark to cross the Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino in a 20 minutes boat tour.
After crossing the Brazo Rico channel, the tour continues along the lakeshore offering privileged views of the Perito Moreno Glacier and the opportunity to witness its impressive ice calving events. You will trek through the forest next to the glacier until you reach a waterfall where you will put on the crampons necessary to walk on the ice and that will allow you not to slip. After warm-up movements, Minitrekking 2.0 begins in which you will be able to see cracks, seracs, sinkholes and small lagoons. The walk is of moderate/high difficulty and is done on an irregular, but firm and safe ice surface. Once the ice trekking is over, you will return to the port trekking along the same path in the forest. Then, you will board again, approaching the southern wall of the glacier while a glass of whiskey with ice from the Perito Moreno Glacier is offered.
Upon arriving at Port Bajo de las Sombras, you will be transported to the balconies located in the front of the glacier, from where you can have a different perspective of the landscape while you visit the famous balconies of the Perito Moreno.
Finally, we begin the journey back to the city of El Calafate after having visited and walked on one of the most famous and unique glaciers in the world.

In this excursion, the toast with whiskey and glacier ice takes place on board the boat during the navigation back to the port, so it does not take place on the surface of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Of the three ice trekking excursions, the only one that includes a toast made directly on the glacier is Minitrekking Perito Moreno.
Is it possible to buy food and drinks inside the National Park?
While there is a restaurant inside the National Park where you can buy food and drinks, please note that eating there may reduce the limited time available to walk the balconies, which is 1 hour in total. For comfort, to make the most of the visit time and to enjoy a meal with views of the Perito Moreno Glacier, we recommend taking a lunchbox.
Can the excursion have schedule changes?
Yes, excursion schedules may change due to operational reasons. In case of changes, you will be informed between 24 and 48 hours before the date of the activity. For this reason, it is recommended not to schedule fixed commitments for the same day of the excursion, such as flights, bus trips or other activities that could overlap with possible tour schedule changes.
Is it possible to take photos or videos during the ice trekking?
Yes, it is possible to take photos and record videos during the walk on the glacier. However, for safety reasons, this will only be allowed at the times and places indicated by the mountain guide.
Are crampons included in the excursion?
Yes, crampons are included in the tour. Before starting the glacier hike, each passenger will have them fitted over their footwear. A short briefing will then be given on the proper use of the equipment and the necessary recommendations for a safe activity. It is important to note that crampons are a metal structure that attaches to your footwear; they are not the footwear itself. Trekking boots are recommended for this excursion.
