Description

Description
Perito Moreno: Ancestral Routes invites you to discover the Perito Moreno Glacier from a different perspective, combining nature, history and exploration by 4x4 vehicle through little-traveled landscapes. The excursion follows alternative routes to the traditional circuit, accompanied by a guide who interprets the surroundings and reveals some of the landscapes and traces of the past that are part of the identity of this region of Patagonia.

The tour begins at your hotel in El Calafate, from where the journey continues along Provincial Route 15 towards the Lago Roca area. Along the way, there are scenic and photographic stops, including Lago Argentino, the bridge crossing over the Centinela River and a historical site related to the rural workers' strikes. One of the most special moments is the visit to a site featuring ancient rock paintings, where a 60-minute interpretive hike allows you to get closer to these traces of the past and learn about the environment that preserves them.

After traveling through natural landscapes and alternative routes, the excursion continues towards Los Glaciares National Park, until reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier. There is time to walk along its balconies for 4 hours and enjoy different views of the glacier's front, in one of the most impressive natural settings in Patagonia. Optionally, you can add a boat tour in front of the glacier to enjoy it from a different perspective.

With a proposal featuring low difficulty, a relaxed pace and small groups, Perito Moreno: Ancestral Routes is an ideal excursion for those who want to discover the glacier while combining its most iconic landscapes with a different perspective on the nature, history and human traces that are part of this territory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Discover the questions other travelers also had before booking.
What level of difficulty do the balconies of the Perito Moreno Glacier have?
The Perito Moreno Glacier balconies feature color-coded circuits marked according to their level of physical difficulty. The accessible circuit (purple) and the central circuit (yellow) are easy; the forest circuit (green) and the coastal circuit (blue) are moderate; while the lower circuit (red) is the most challenging due to the number of stairs and inclines. All routes are well-marked and offer different perspectives of the glacier.
How is it recommended to dress for the excursion?
Since the weather in Patagonia is changeable, it is essential to dress in warm layers to adapt to the different conditions that may arise. It is recommended to use thermal clothing, fleece, a waterproof jacket or windbreaker, and waterproof pants. Regarding footwear, we recommend using trekking boots or, failing that, laced sports shoes, although the latter is not ideal for enjoying the experience to the fullest. It is also advised to take sunscreen, gloves, sunglasses and a backpack.
Is this excursion suitable for all ages?
Yes. It is a low-difficulty excursion, ideal for travelers who want to combine nature, history, and landscapes without undertaking a demanding trek.
What is the difficulty level of the interpretive hike?

The route is designed to enjoy the surroundings and learn about the history and characteristics of the landscape without requiring a high level of physical exertion.
Is it necessary to bring food?
The excursion does not include food. Passengers can bring a packed lunch and water for the day, or purchase food and drinks at the snack bar.
