Description

Description
Safari Experience is a half day tour in which you discover the Patagonian landscape through the observation of guanacos, condors, foxes, among other animals of the native fauna. You will travel through 80 million years of history in a safari 4x4 watching the evolution of the land, a wall of fossilized oysters, an ancient Tehuelche chenque, remains of native people who lived 10,000 years ago, pioneer ranchers and current flora and fauna of the area close to El Calafate.

During the Safari Photo Tour, you will visit unique areas in Argentina, among which highlights an unexplored chenque in the middle of the Patagonian steppe which is an ancient Tehuelche burial site (native indigenous people who inhabited the area) and a wall of fossilized oysters with millions years old.

The tour departs in the morning and in the afternoon from El Calafate accessing the Natural Reserve "Estancia 25 de Mayo", which limits the city of El Calafate and the Chilean border. You will have excellent opportunities to take pictures of the Patagonian landscape and wildlife.

You will visit the area where the first settlers of Estancia 25 de Mayo were installed while traveling next to the Arroyo Calafate in 4x4 vehicles. When ascending, you will notice the marked difference in vegetation towards the Chilean border, from where you will have stunning panoramic views of the cerros Centinela and Baguales, peaks that mark the border with Chile. Upon reaching the highest area of the 4x4 journey, you will get off from the vehicles to make a trekking to a chenque located in the middle of the Patagonian steppe where you will learn about the Tehuelche culture regarding the burial of their dead and you will visit a wall of fossilized oysters.

Back in the 4x4s, you will visit an old estancia post called “La Sección” where you will have lunch or dinner. This post was used by ranchers when they worked with cattle in these remote places.

After the meal, you return to your hotel in El Calafate after having enjoyed a tour in an authentic natural environment surrounded by Patagonian fauna.
