Description

Description
Discover a completely different perspective of Los Glaciares National Park with this exclusive helicopter experience flying over the Perito Moreno Glacier area. From the air, the Patagonian landscapes reveal their full immensity on a 30-minute flight that combines views of mountains, lakes, forests, and several glaciers in an unforgettable experience.

The excursion begins at the heliport located in Punta Bandera, at 50 km from El Calafate. Passengers who wish can add a transfer from their hotel in the city or travel to the heliport on their own. The helicopter model used is a Robinson 44 with a capacity of up to 3 passengers, offering, due to its design, excellent visibility thanks to a floor-to-ceiling front window with no visual obstruction. This aircraft is so reliable that it was the most produced and sold on the market between 1999 and 2017.

After being welcomed in the waiting area while the aircraft is being prepared, the flight begins towards the Iceberg Channel and the Magallanes Peninsula, following the western boundary of Los Glaciares National Park. As the helicopter flies, you will contemplate the immensity of the Patagonian landscape with snow-capped mountain ranges, remote valleys and intensely turquoise lakes.

During the tour, you will fly over the vicinity of Seno Mayo and Ameghino Bay, offering privileged views of the Ameghino Glacier and the most inaccessible corners of the park. Undoubtedly, the most breathtaking moment comes in front of the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier, where from the air you can appreciate its enormous ice walls descending from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field towards the waters of Lake Argentino.

The experience continues flying over the Buenos Aires Mountains and the Mitre River Valley, crossing extensive lenga forests and virtually untouched natural landscapes. Finally, the flight returns to the heliport with incredible panoramic views of the Patagonian steppe and the mountains surrounding El Calafate.

Sky Over Moreno is a tour designed for those who want to experience Patagonia from an exclusive and exciting perspective, enjoying one of the most impressive landscapes in the world from the sky.

What type of helicopter do you fly in?
The flights are conducted in a Robinson R44 helicopter, an aircraft recognized for its safety, maneuverability and excellent panoramic visibility for passengers.
What does flight altitude depend on?
The altitude may vary depending on weather conditions and winds in each section of the route. The pilot determines the most suitable altitude to ensure safe operation and the best possible viewing conditions.
At what altitude do you fly?
Flight altitude varies depending on the section of the route and the day's weather conditions. During the observation leg of the Perito Moreno Glacier flight, the helicopter typically flies between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, maintaining the necessary distance and altitude to operate outside the boundaries of the National Park.
What glaciers can be seen during the flight?
The main attraction of the experience is the Perito Moreno Glacier. During the tour, you will also enjoy excellent views of the Ameghino Glacier and, if visibility permits, it is possible to spot other glaciers in the distance.
Is it possible to see the Torres del Paine during the flight?
Yes. When weather conditions are favorable and the sky is clear, it is possible to see the Torres del Paine in the distance, one of the most iconic landscapes of Chilean Patagonia. Visibility will depend on factors such as cloud cover and the day's atmospheric conditions.
Does the flight fly over any glaciers?
Flying directly over the glaciers is not permitted but they are always viewed from a panoramic perspective. The flight altitude is adjusted according to weather conditions to ensure the best possible views.
Do the windows have an anti-reflective coating for photography?
The aircraft is equipped with large standard plexiglass windows that allow passengers to enjoy panoramic views during the flight. However, the presence of a specific anti-reflective treatment for professional photography is not guaranteed.
