Description
The Viedma Boat Tour excursion, in El Chalten area, offers a unique experience in front of the Viedma Glacier, the largest in Argentina, sailing across Lake Viedma with views of the Huemul Massif, trekking to a panoramic viewpoint in Iceberg Bay and taking a boat ride up close to the imposing front of the glacier. The hike to Iceberg Bay is a unique experience.
If you book the excursion with transportation from El Calafate, we will pick you up from your hotel starting at 7:00 a.m. and transfer you to Bahía Túnel Port, where the boat departs at 11:00 a.m. After the navigation, and before returning to El Calafate, the transfer includes a visit to Chorrillo del Salto. If you have your own vehicle, you must arrive at Bahía Túnel Port at 10:30 a.m. The port is located 18 km from the town of El Chaltén.
The first part of the excursion heads towards Cape Horn Bay and lasts 40 minutes, offering views of the Huemul Massif. Upon reaching the bay, you will disembark for a 25 minutes low-difficulty trek to a spectacular vantage point on the Cape Horn Peninsula, from where you can see the coast of Iceberg Bay.
Upon returning from the trek, you will board again and head towards the front of the Viedma Glacier to begin the second part of the excursion. At this point, you will marvel with views of the front of Argentina's largest glacier. Then, you will return to Tunnel Bay Port and the city of El Calafate after having visited a little-known area of Los Glaciares National Park.
