Description
Kayak: Rio de las Vueltas is an excursion that combines nature, iconic views and adventure in one of Patagonia’s most representative landscapes. The activity begins at the operational base in El Chalten, where guides provide the necessary technical and safety equipment for the kayaking experience. Participants are then transferred 21 km along Provincial Route 41 to Laguna Condor Viewpoint, the starting point of the navigation.
Before the activity begins, the guides provide a technical and safety briefing explaining basic paddling techniques and the proper use of the equipment. Depending on each participant’s previous experience, single or double kayaks will be assigned for the tour.
The kayaking takes place on a calm section of the Rio de las Vueltas characterized by shallow waters and numerous meanders. The route covers approximately 12 kilometers between Laguna Condor and Fitz Roy Viewpoint, crossing sections of the Patagonian Andean forest and wide natural landscapes with Class I rapids. Midway through the journey, there is a stop to enjoy a brunch surrounded by nature before continuing to the landing point.
The kayaking portion lasts approximately between one and a half and two hours, depending on river and wind conditions. At the end of the activity, a vehicle will provide transportation back to El Chalten.
The combination of unique Patagonian landscapes, peaceful navigation and the opportunity to admire Mount Fitz Roy from a different perspective makes this excursion one of the most highly recommended experiences for travelers seeking to connect with nature in Argentina’s National Trekking Capital.
