Description

Description
The excursion to the Vinciguerra Glacier in Ushuaia is a trekking of intermediate difficulty that cannot be missed by lovers of mountain adventure and nature at the End of the World. You can reach this magnificent glacier crossing the Andorra Valley, a peat bog, the Fuegian forest and ascending a rocky slope of the mountain in a total trek of 7 hours and 16 km. The views of the Vinciguerra Glacier, the Tempanos Lagoon and the ice caves are unmissable.

The tour begins departing from your hotel in Ushuaia where we will pick you up with the mountain guide in vehicles and transport you to the beginning of the trekking trail located in the Andorra Valley and at 7 km from the city center.

From here begins the trekking next to the Arroyo Grande, through a peat bog to then cross it and begin the ascent through the Fuegian forest. Halfway you can see how the Patagonian landscapes begin to surround us.

The trekking continues uphill with some climbs that require physical demand, crossing the limit of vegetation and changing to a high mountain landscape where the imposing Laguna de los Tempanos, the Vinciguerra Glacier and some incredible ice caves of the glacier await us and that can be visited with the specialized guides that accompany the group. Here you can marvel at the enormous cracks, sinkholes and ice caves of the Vinciguerra Glacier. Surrounded by this magnificent landscape of rock and ice, we will stop for lunch, rest and take photos.

To finish the tour, we head back to the city of Ushuaia along the same path of stones, forest and peat, enjoying the wonderful landscapes that this area of the Andorra Valley at the End of the World offers.

Important: In order to guarantee the departure of the tour, it is necessary to have at least 2 people confirmed in the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Discover the questions other travelers also had before booking.
Is a visit to ice caves guaranteed?
No. Ice caves are natural formations whose presence and accessibility vary depending on glacier conditions. For safety reasons, visits depend on the assessment made by the guides on each outing.
Can I refill my drinking water from meltwater along the way, or do I need to carry water?
It is mandatory to carry water from the start of the hike; we recommend at least 1 liter per person. There are snowmelt streams along the route where you can refill your bottle; however, this water has a high mineral content, so it is recommended to consume it in moderation or mix it with the water you bring.
How is it recommended to dress for the excursion?

As the weather in Patagonia can be unpredictable, we recommend dressing in layers, including:

  • Thermal clothing.
  • Fleece sweater or jacket.
  • Waterproof jacket or windbreaker.
  • Waterproof pants.
  • Hiking boots (mandatory requirement).

It is also important to bring:

  • Gloves.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Backpack.
What is the difficulty level of the hike?
The hike is of medium to high difficulty. The route crosses various types of terrain, including peat bogs, forested areas, and, beyond the tree line, a rocky section that requires greater physical effort and attention to footing. The trail culminates at the lagoon and glacier, offering panoramic views that reward the effort.
